FOREIGN CHAMBERS SUPPORT MOVES TO AVERT LOSS SEAFARER’S JOBS

The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (GPCCI) and the Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (NordCham) share the concerns of local manning agencies over the looming loss of jobs of Filipino seafarers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

GPCCI and NordCham, which represents the business interests here of Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) and Baltic (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) countries, have expressed their unequivocal support to proposals, seeking to mitigate the impact of the global health crisis on seafarers’ jobs.

Earlier, a group of manning agencies led by Atty. Iris Baguilat, president of Döhle Seafront Crewing (Manila), and some concerned groups have proposed to the Labor department several steps in a bid to preserve employment of thousands Filipino seafarers.
